New Delhi, Feb 20: India has officially joined the United States-led high-technology initiative, “Pax Silica,” marking a significant expansion of its strategic technology framework. The declaration was signed on Friday at Bharat Mandapam during the AI Impact Summit, with Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw and US officials, including envoy Sergio Gor and Under Secretary Jacob Helberg, in attendance.
The initiative is designed to establish a resilient global supply chain for semiconductors, artificial intelligence, and critical minerals. Minister Vaishnaw stated that India’s entry into the bloc is a testament to the global trust fostered by Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s administration and the nation’s vast IT talent pool.
This development follows India’s absence from the inaugural launch of the grouping last December, which included nations such as Japan, South Korea, and the United Kingdom. Minister Vaishnaw affirmed that the framework is essential for developing a comprehensive semiconductor ecosystem in India, covering everything from chip design to manufacturing.
“The world trusts India because of its IT strength and a foreign policy that reinforces that confidence,” the Minister declared. He maintained that Indian engineers are already engaged in advanced two-nanometre chip designs, positioning the country at the forefront of the next technological wave.
Beyond manufacturing, the Minister noted that the global industry will soon require one million additional skilled professionals. He asserted that India intends to supply a significant portion of this workforce through specialized training and enhanced access to design tools. The Pax Silica bloc is widely viewed as a strategic counter to existing dominance in high-tech supply chains, emphasizing cooperation among trusted digital partners.
