Lakshya made history by being the first male athlete from India to make it to the badminton semifinals at the Olympics. However, his aspirations of competing for the gold medal were dashed when he lost to the top-seeded Viktor Axelsen. In the bronze medal match, Lakshya went up against Lee Zii Jia, but he was defeated once more. His performance was highly praised, and in a recent interview, the young player shared his ambition to become the “Virat Kohli of Indian badminton in coming years”.

“Why not? After all, he has made significant contributions to Indian cricket. Indeed, I hope to become Virat Kohli of Indian badminton in the future.” he stated on the podcast The Ranveer Show.

Lakshya also talked candidly about his friendship with gold medalist Viktor Axelsen from Tokyo and Paris. He said that Axelsen was an inspiration to him and that the two of them had trained together in Dubai.

Axelsen had already expressed admiration for Lakshya and had even made a bold prediction.

“Lakshya is a fantastic athlete. He has proven throughout the Olympics that he is an extremely tough competitor, and in four years, I have no doubt that he will be among the favorites to take home the gold. “I wish him all the best, he’s an amazing talent and a great guy,” Axelsen remarked.
