NEW DELHI, Nov 28 — Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Friday questioned Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s silence over the escalating air pollution in Delhi and demanded urgent, accountable action.
Sharing a video of his discussions with mothers at his residence, Gandhi said, “Every mother I meet tells me her child is growing up breathing toxic air. They are exhausted, scared and angry.”
He urged Parliament to hold a detailed debate and called for a strict action plan. “Modi ji, India’s children are choking in front of us. Why does your government show no urgency, no plan, no accountability?” he wrote on X.
Delhi has been battling very poor air quality for the past two weeks. Forecasts from the Air Quality Early Warning System indicate that pollution levels are likely to remain hazardous in the coming week. Health experts warn that toxic air can inflame airways, reduce lung function, and worsen existing conditions. They recommend preventive screenings, particularly for children, asthma patients, smokers, and those with heart or respiratory ailments.
