IndiGo Back on Track; Refunds Rolling Out

by TheReportingTimes

New Delhi, Dec. 9, 2025 — IndiGo said Tuesday that its flights are now running smoothly after last week’s major operational disruption, with refunds being processed for passengers affected by cancellations and delays.

In a video message, CEO Peter Elbers apologised for the inconvenience. “IndiGo is back on its feet, and our operations are stable. We let you down when a major disruption happened, and we’re sorry,” he said.

Elbers said lakhs of customers have already received full refunds, and the airline continues to process claims daily. While he did not specify compensation for last-minute cancellations or long delays, the Civil Aviation Ministry mandates automatic payouts when passengers are not informed at least two weeks in advance.

“Thousands of you could not travel, and we are profusely apologetic about that,” Elbers added. “Our priority was to get all stranded passengers safely to their destinations or back home, then start refunds.”

The CEO said most delayed baggage has been delivered, with the remaining items being handled promptly. Flight operations have been restored “on a war footing,” rising from 700 flights on December 5 to more than 1,800 by Tuesday, covering all 138 destinations in IndiGo’s network.

“Flights on our website now reflect the adjusted schedule, and our on-time performance is back to normal,” Elbers said, signalling a return to stability for India’s largest airline.
