Amritsar, 9 Dec — The Amritsar police’s intelligence-led operation led to the arrest of six members of a Pakistan-operated arms smuggling gang and the seizure of six pistols, including five .30-bore firearms and a 9mm PX5, officials said.

Amritsar Police Commissioner Gurpreet Singh Bhullar said the breakthrough came when officers arrested Gurbir Singh alias Sonu and Gurpreet Singh alias Gopa, recovering two .30-bore pistols. “Their interrogation revealed the entire network,” he said. Subsequent raids led to the arrest of associates Gorka Singh alias Gora with one .30-bore pistol, Jaspal Singh alias Jass with one .30-bore pistol, Rajwinder Singh alias Raju with a 9mm PX5, and a juvenile associate with another .30-bore pistol.

Bhullar added that Gorka and Rajwinder have prior cases under the NDPS Act and charges including rape and offences under the POCSO Act. Two accomplices in Kapurthala district have been identified as receivers of the illegal weapons, and raids are underway to apprehend them.

The case has been registered under sections 25(6,7,8) of the Arms Act at Cantonment police station.
