Iran Recalls Ambassadors as UN Sanctions Loom

by TheReportingTimes

Tehran, September 27, 2025: Iran has recalled its ambassadors from the United Kingdom, France, and Germany following the activation of a UN dispute mechanism that could lead to the reimposition of comprehensive sanctions. The European trio, known as the E3, initiated the process after Iran failed to meet conditions related to its nuclear program. The sanctions are set to take effect on Sunday.

In response, Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian criticized U.S. demands for Iran to surrender its enriched uranium in exchange for a temporary sanctions reprieve, labeling the offer as “unacceptable.” He emphasized that such conditions were not conducive to meaningful negotiations.

The United Nations had previously lifted sanctions under the 2015 nuclear deal, but the reactivation of the snapback mechanism indicates a significant shift in international relations concerning Iran’s nuclear activities.
