Jagriti Yatra reaches Punjab to mark Guru Teg Bahadur’s martyrdom

Mohali, Oct 23: A nationwide ‘Jagriti Yatra’, organised to honour the 350th martyrdom anniversary of Guru Teg Bahadur, entered Punjab on Wednesday amid devotional fervour and mass participation.

The yatra, a grand nagar kirtan led by Takht Patna Sahib with support from the Bihar government, seeks to spread the Guru’s message of courage, compassion, and interfaith harmony. The event also symbolises the spiritual connection between Patna Sahib—the Guru’s birthplace—and Punjab, where he made the supreme sacrifice.

The procession was welcomed at Sahibzada Ajit Singh Nagar by Malvinder Singh Benipal, convenor of the event, along with religious leaders and public representatives. Devotees thronged the roadsides, offering prayers and chanting ‘Bole So Nihal, Sat Sri Akal’ as the yatra arrived from Kurukshetra. The celebrations featured Gurbani recitation and martial Gatka demonstrations by Sikh performers.

“The response from people across India has been overwhelming. The Guru’s ideals of standing up for truth and protecting humanity are timeless,” Benipal mentioned.

Flagged off from Takht Patna Sahib on September 17 by Bihar Deputy Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary, the yatra has travelled through Bihar, Jharkhand, West Bengal, Odisha, Chhattisgarh, Uttar Pradesh, Delhi, and Haryana. In Punjab, it will visit Patiala, Fatehgarh Sahib, Khanna, Ludhiana, Sultanpur Lodhi, Jalandhar, Kartarpur, and Nawanshahr before culminating at Anandpur Sahib on October 27.
