Jalandhar, Nov 23:: The body of a 14-year-old girl, who had been reported missing by her family, was recovered from the washroom of her neighbour’s home in Paras Estate on Leather Complex Road late Saturday night. CCTV footage confirmed that she had entered the neighbour’s house prior to her death.
Locals said police failed to conduct a proper check during their initial visit. “If authorities had acted with urgency, the girl might have been saved,” remarked former BJP MLA Sheetal Angural.
The suspect, a man in his 50s and father of two children, was apprehended by Basti Bawa Khel police. During the arrest, the accused was protected by police from an angry mob. ADCP-1 Akarshi Jain arrived at the scene to manage the situation.
Authorities said an autopsy would be conducted Sunday morning to determine the cause of death, likely strangulation, and examine any potential sexual assault.
