Jhajjar, Jan 24: Gijroudh village in Jhajjar turned into a sea of mourners as the body of Mohit Chauhan reached his ancestral home for the final rites. The Indian Army soldier lost his life after an army vehicle fell into a gorge in Jammu and Kashmir’s Doda district on Thursday.
The tragic accident claimed the lives of 10 soldiers when their vehicle lost control on a treacherous mountain stretch. On Saturday, a contingent of the Indian Army provided a guard of honour, firing shots into the air as the soldier’s younger brother performed the last rites.
Former minister Om Prakash Dhankhar joined the villagers in paying tribute to the departed soul. He noted that the sacrifice of the young jawan would always be remembered by the nation. The atmosphere in the village remained somber, with residents recalling Mohit’s dedication to both his family and his profession.
“He always wanted the village boys to serve the country just like him,” Sarpanch Naresh said while speaking to the media. The sarpanch mentioned that Mohit was actively involved in coaching local aspirants for military service. “During his last stay here, he made it a point to help them with their physical training and study material,” he directly said.
The soldier had a promising life ahead, having celebrated his first marriage anniversary only a few months ago in November. His family members shared that he was looking forward to becoming a father, as his wife is expecting their first child. Mohit had reported back for duty just last month after spending quality time with his loved ones during the festivities.
