Karnataka Issues Covid Guidelines for Schools Ahead of Reopening

by TheReportingTimes

BENGALURU, May 31 – With schools across Karnataka set to reopen in June, the state government has issued fresh Covid-19 safety guidelines to prevent outbreaks among students and staff. The decision follows a high-level review chaired by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on May 26, amid a modest rise in cases.

The advisory, applicable to all government and private schools, stresses early detection and isolation of symptomatic individuals. Children showing signs of fever, cough, or cold must be kept at home and allowed to return only after full recovery.

Schools have been directed to monitor students daily and ensure that any child developing symptoms during school hours is sent home immediately. Parents must be notified without delay. The same rules apply to teachers and non-teaching staff, who are advised not to attend school if unwell.

In addition to screening, schools must strictly enforce Covid-19 Appropriate Behaviour (CAB) — including handwashing, respiratory hygiene, and mask etiquette where necessary.

The precautions come as Karnataka reported 114 new Covid cases in 24 hours, taking the state’s total infections since January 2025 to over 360 cases. A Covid-related death was also recorded on May 25 — a 62-year-old man from Mysuru who had underlying health conditions and succumbed to complications from Covid pneumonia and septic shock.

Health authorities have urged strict implementation of the new guidelines to prevent school-based clusters as the academic year resumes.
