New Delhi, Sept. 24, 2025: Punjab governor and Chandigarh administrator Gulab Chand Kataria on Tuesday met Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi and apprised him of flood relief efforts, border security concerns, and development priorities for Punjab and Chandigarh.

According to an official release, Kataria presented a detailed account of measures taken after the devastating floods in Punjab, including coordinated aid distribution, restoration of infrastructure, and disease-control initiatives. He also emphasized the need for central support in boosting industries in sensitive border districts to create jobs for the youth, while strengthening vigilance along the international border with Pakistan through anti-drone systems and high-definition surveillance.

On the education front, Kataria briefed the Prime Minister about the rollout of the National Education Policy (NEP) in Punjab and Chandigarh, highlighting efforts to improve higher education through NAAC-linked accreditation. He also underlined drug awareness campaigns aimed at sensitizing youth and promoting a healthier society.

Turning to Chandigarh, the governor proposed developing a “Gift City” on the lines of Gujarat International Finance Tec-City to drive economic growth. He also outlined the city’s new sports policy, envisioning Chandigarh as a major hub for nurturing talent and hosting national and international tournaments. Additionally, he spoke of a startup policy designed to encourage self-employment among young people.

The meeting, officials said, covered a wide spectrum of issues — from immediate disaster relief to long-term reforms in security, economy, education, and sports — reflecting a comprehensive roadmap for the region’s progress.
