Kin allege murder after body of missing man found in Dhanas drain

by TheReportingTimes

Chandigarh, Oct 23: The police have begun an investigation into the death of a 25-year-old welder whose decomposed body was found in a drain near Dhanas earlier this week. The deceased, identified as Akash of Milk Colony, had been missing since October 15.

A case under Sections 103(1) and 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) was registered on Tuesday. Officials said efforts are being made to identify and arrest the culprits.

According to police, Akash’s body was recovered on October 19 near Rao Chowk, Patiala, in a decomposed state and sent to the Government Multi-Specialty Hospital for post-mortem, which was carried out on October 21.

The case came to light after Akash’s elder sister, Neha, filed a missing person report at Sarangpur police station on October 18, alleging that her brother had been murdered. She named some acquaintances in her complaint, claiming Akash had last been seen near a park in Dhanas with several men. “Our cousin Amrit Pal told us that one of them was Bunty, but the others could not be identified,” Neha said.

She told police that Akash was a strong man who could not have been subdued easily. “I am sure Bunty and his friends made him drink, killed him, and dumped his body in the drain,” Neha alleged.

The family also told police that Akash had been in a relationship with a woman named Jyoti from Sector 25 and planned to marry her soon. Neha said her brother often stayed out late and socialised with friends, but the sudden disappearance raised suspicions.

Police said the cause of death would be confirmed after receiving the post-mortem report. “The investigation is underway and further details will be revealed once the report is received,” an officer said.
