May 28, LSG vs RCB Highlights: Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) defeated Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) by six wickets on the back of Virat Kohli’s half-century and a century partnership between Jitesh Sharma and Mayank Agarwal. With this win, RCB reached Qualifier-1. Now, it will face Punjab Kings on 29 May in Mullanpur.
The Last League Stage Match and Points Table Standings
In the last match of the league stage played at the Ekana Stadium in Lucknow on Tuesday, Lucknow scored 227 runs for the loss of three wickets on the basis of Rishabh Pant’s century. In reply, RCB scored 230 runs for the loss of four wickets in 18.4 overs and won the match. This is the third most successful run chase in IPL history and RCB’s biggest chase ever. William O’Rourke took two wickets for Lucknow while Akash Singh and Avesh Khan took one wicket each.
This was the last match of the league stage in IPL 2025, which RCB won. For the first time since 2016, the team has finished the league stage in the top-two. RCB has been in the top-two three times in IPL history so far, previously achieving this in 2016 and 2011. With a win over Lucknow, RCB reached second place in the points table with 19 points and a net run rate of 0.301. At the same time, Lucknow finished seventh with 12 points, recording six wins and eight losses in 14 matches.
Upcoming Matches and Knockout Stage
Now RCB will face Punjab Kings in Qualifier-1. Shreyas Iyer’s team registered a spectacular win over Mumbai on Monday. Meanwhile, the eliminator match between Mumbai and Gujarat will be played on 30 May.
RCB’s Chase: Strong Partnerships
Chasing the target, RCB got off to a great start with Phil Salt and Virat Kohli, who put together a partnership of 61 runs for the first wicket before Akash Singh dismissed Salt for 30 runs off 19 balls. After this, Rajat Patidar could score only 14 runs before being dismissed by William O’Rourke, who also sent Livingstone back on the next ball. RCB, having lost three wickets at a score of 90, needed a big partnership. Virat Kohli remained steady at one end and was supported by Mayank Agarwal, with both adding 33 runs for the fourth wicket.
Kohli completed his eighth fifty of the season in 27 balls before scoring 54 runs in 30 balls with 10 fours. He was dismissed by Avesh Khan. After Kohli’s dismissal, Mayank Agarwal was joined by Jitesh Sharma. Both ensured RCB’s victory with an unbeaten partnership of 107 runs in 45 balls. During this time, stand-in captain Jitesh also completed the first fifty of his IPL career, remaining unbeaten on 85 off 33 balls, while Mayank scored an unbeaten 41 off 23 balls.
Lucknow’s Innings: Rishabh Pant’s Century
Earlier, Lucknow started with a setback, losing their first wicket at a score of 25 as Matthew Breetzke was bowled by Nuwan Tushara for 14 runs. However, captain Rishabh Pant, coming in at number three, took charge and built a massive 152-run partnership with Mitchell Marsh for the second wicket. During this, Marsh contributed 67 runs in 37 balls with four fours and five sixes. At the same time, Rishabh Pant returned to form and completed the second century of his IPL career in just 54 balls. He remained unbeaten on 118 runs in 61 balls with 11 fours and eight sixes. Against Bangalore, Nicholas Puran remained unbeaten on 13 runs, while Abdul Samad scored one run. For RCB, Nuwan Tushara, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, and Romario Shepherd took one wicket each.
