Ludhiana, October 31 — With dengue cases continuing to climb, health authorities in Ludhiana have marked 29 areas as dengue hotspots, after confirming 15 new infections on Thursday. The district’s cumulative count has now reached 361, with 35 cases still active, officials said.
District epidemiologist Dr. Sheetal Narang said that any area recording more than two dengue cases qualifies as a hotspot. The list includes Gurdev Nagar, Model Town, SBS Nagar, Dugri Phases 1 and 2, Vishal Nagar, Ambedkar Nagar, Karnail Singh Nagar, Baba Deep Singh Nagar, Jassian Road, Chandani Chowk, Salem Tabri, Rahon Road, Guru Vihar, Issa Nagri, Prem Nagar, Bholla Colony, Jaspal Nagar, Agar Nagar, Barewal, Habibganj, Santokh Nagar, Preet Nagar, Gurunanak Dev Nagar, Atam Nagar, Chander Nagar, Mini Rose Garden, Vijay Nagar Dholewal, and Rishi Nagar.
“The health teams are conducting intensive surveillance and fogging in all hotspot areas,” Dr. Narang said.
Civil Surgeon Dr. Ramandeep Kaur appealed to the public to remain cautious and take preventive steps. “The Aedes mosquito breeds in clean stagnant water — in coolers, pots, tyres, or open utensils. Regular cleaning and drying of such sites is essential,” she said.
She added that under the ongoing drive, ‘Har Shukarvaar – Dengue Te Vaar’, residents are encouraged to check their premises every Friday to prevent mosquito breeding. “We advise citizens to maintain cleanliness, replace water in containers frequently, and use mosquito repellents or nets,” Dr. Kaur said.
She assured that government hospitals are fully prepared to manage the caseload. “Free testing and treatment are available across all government facilities. Hospitals are on alert with adequate medicine, testing kits, and platelets stocked,” she said.
