by TheReportingTimes

LUDHIANA, 14 Aug — The Jodhan police have launched an investigation into the death of 18-year-old Taranpreet Singh of Gujjarwal village, whose body was found at an indoor stadium on Tuesday, a day after he went missing from home.

Suspecting foul play, Taranpreet’s family, led by Gurdeep Singh, has alleged that local drug peddlers lured him into substance abuse and demanded strict action. Villagers, including sarpanch Hardeep Singh, Zamhoori Kisan Sabha leader Harnek Singh Gujjarwal and BKU (Ekta Ugrahan) leader Kuldeep Singh, staged a dharna to press for speedy arrests.

Dakha DSP Varinder Singh Khosla said two of the four accused have been arrested — Manpreet Singh Mani of Ransinh Kalan and Jagtar Singh Taari of Gujjarwal. The remaining two, Ranjeet Singh Sonu and Jagjiwan Singh, both residents of Gujjarwal, are absconding.

Police said the cause of death will be confirmed after the post-mortem report, but preliminary suspicion points to a drug overdose.
