FEROZEPUR, Nov 27 — The prime suspect in the murder of Naveen Arora, son of a local RSS leader, was killed in an encounter with police on Thursday morning near the Mahmu Joyia toll plaza on the Fazilka–Ferozepur stretch, officials said.
The encounter unfolded at a cremation ground close to the toll barrier. Police said a team led by a DSP and DSP (D) had taken accused Badal to the site after he disclosed information about hidden weapons linked to the case.
SSP Gurmeet Singh said the situation turned violent as soon as the team entered the grounds. “Two men hiding inside opened fire, injuring Head Constable Balaur Singh,” he said.
According to police sources, the officers retaliated, and Badal was killed in the crossfire. The two other men managed to flee despite the cordon.
Police have intensified searches in the surrounding areas to locate the escapees.
