AMRITSAR, July 13 — The Chief Khalsa Diwan, a historic Sikh educational and social institution, has reinstated the membership of 63 individuals, including Satyajit Singh Majithia, father of jailed Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) leader Bikram Singh Majithia. The memberships were originally revoked four months ago due to prolonged absenteeism from the organisation’s meetings.
The Diwan, founded 123 years ago and currently headed by Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) legislator Inderbir Singh Nijjar, reversed its decision following internal reviews that revealed inconsistencies in the removal process.
“The termination list prepared based on the Executive Committee meeting on March 23 and ratified by the General House on March 30 contained several discrepancies,” said Ramneek Singh, honorary secretary of the Diwan. “It was recommended that the resolution be withdrawn so the list could be thoroughly re-examined.”
Subsequently, both the executive committee and the general house unanimously agreed to withdraw the earlier resolutions, paving the way for the reinstatement of all 63 members.
Ramneek Singh also called for unity within the institution, warning that internal disputes were damaging the Diwan’s reputation. “Members must rise above infighting for the sake of the institution’s legacy and credibility,” he said.
Following directions from the Akal Takht Secretariat, Diwan vice-presidents Santokh Singh Sethi and Tajinder Singh announced that the body had approved a budget for a grand kirtan darbar to mark the birth anniversary of Guru Harkrishan. The event will be held at the Diwan’s school in Amritsar on July 20.
President Nijjar urged all members to participate in the celebration with their families. “Let us come together in the spirit of seva and sangat to seek the Guru’s blessings,” he said.
