Police Thwart Gang Plot follows month-long surveillance

Ludhiana, Jan 18: Ludhiana authorities prevented a violent extortion attempt against a Gurgaon businessman by arresting 10 operatives linked to the Goldy Brar gang. The police operation, which spanned four weeks, led to the seizure of 12 firearms and uncovered a sophisticated system of weapon trafficking and communication used by the criminal syndicate.

The gang had finalized plans to target the businessman’s home before the Ludhiana Commissionerate Police intervened. Investigators found that the group used encrypted digital platforms to coordinate with handlers located both inside and outside the state of Punjab.

“The operation sends a clear message that the Ludhiana Police will continue to act decisively against organised crime and illegal arms networks, ensuring that such activities have no place in our district,” Police Commissioner Swapan Sharma said. He mentioned that the force remains committed to pursuing all offenders relentlessly.

Records show that the crackdown began with the registration of a case in mid-December, leading to the apprehension of eight suspects involved in gunpoint extortion and arms trafficking. Among the seized arsenal were high-quality Glock pistols and various rounds of live ammunition.

The operation also addressed a specific violent attack at Salem Tabri, where suspects Jatin Mattu and Kunal Machhi allegedly opened fire on a local resident. Following the assault, police tracked down Mattu and another associate, Mukul, recovering five more illegal weapons.

Commissioner Sharma noted that the syndicate employed a unique “pick-and-drop” method for transporting firearms to minimize the risk of being caught during physical handovers. While Goldy Brar remains at large overseas, local authorities stated that legal proceedings against him are currently in progress as they continue to hunt for remaining gang members.
