Abohar, March 10: Blow to cross-border smuggling, security forces recovered 6.4 kg of heroin dropped by Pakistani drones in the early hours of Monday. The joint operation by the BSF and Punjab-Rajasthan border police led to the arrest of one individual from the Fazilka district, while a manhunt is underway for two others who escaped the cordoned area.
The incident came to light when a farmer alerted BSF personnel at a nearby border post after hearing a thud in the fields between 1:30 a.m. and 2:00 a.m. Responding to the tip, the BSF surrounded the mustard fields and apprehended Simarjit Singh. Security agencies recovered eight packets of the illicit substance from the suspect’s possession, totaling over 6 kg in weight.
The BSF maintained that the narcotics were transported via two drones, each carrying four packets, which retreated to Pakistan after dropping the load. The arrested suspect stated that the group had arrived from Jalalabad with the intention of retrieving the delivery. It was further noted that one of the suspects allegedly has familial ties in the nearby Chak 40-PS village, which may have facilitated their movement in the area.
District police officials asserted that a blockade was immediately established following the recovery, though two suspects managed to evade capture. Intelligence agencies and local police teams continue to conduct extensive searches in the region. The authorities affirmed that the seized heroin and the arrested individual are currently being processed as part of a wider investigation into international smuggling routes.
