AMRITSAR, Feb 21 — A conspiracy to target the Rayya police post was foiled in the early hours of Saturday following the recovery of a live Improvised Explosive Device (IED). The discovery behind the police building led to an emergency response from the Amritsar Rural police and specialized bomb disposal units.
Upon receiving intelligence regarding a suspicious package late Friday night, police personnel secured the site and established a security cordon. Experts from the bomb disposal squad confirmed the package contained explosive material and proceeded to safely neutralize the threat.
SSP Amritsar Rural Sohail Qasim Mir asserted that the timely recovery of the IED prevented what could have been a devastating attack on the police post. He maintained that the motive and the perpetrators behind the attempted bombing are still being investigated, as no group has come forward to claim the plot.
The police have intensified patrolling and surveillance in the area following the incident. Officials declared that the safe disposal of the device was a critical success for the district’s security apparatus. Investigation into the origin of the IED and the logistics used to plant it behind the post continues as authorities scan local intelligence and surveillance data.
