SHIMLA, May 11 — Police have registered a case against a man in Shimla for allegedly using the image of the Pakistan national flag as his WhatsApp display picture, officials said on Sunday.
The accused, identified as Adil Magre, hails from Anantnag in Jammu and Kashmir and has been residing near Lakkar Bazar in Shimla since 2016. He is currently employed at a private gas agency in the city.
According to police, Magre has been booked for “promoting enmity on grounds of religion, language, caste, race or community” and for actions “prejudicial to national integration.”
A case has been registered under Sections 196 and 197(1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, officials confirmed.
Authorities are investigating the motive behind the display picture and whether any further legal action is warranted.
