Kurukshetra, May 18 — Amid the ongoing crackdown on espionage-related activities, a Special Task Force (STF) team from Hisar detained Harkirat Singh, an employee of the Haryana Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee (HSGMC), from Ajrana village in Kurukshetra, on Saturday. However, he was released on Sunday evening after questioning.
Singh, who works as the yatra in-charge and handles visa-related matters for pilgrims travelling to Pakistan, was picked up from Shyam Colony in Kurukshetra. His family claimed they were kept in the dark about the action and only found out after viewing CCTV footage of him being taken.
“Six men came last night and took him away. He only assists in paperwork for pilgrims going to Pakistan and has never visited the country himself,” his father told reporters. The family said they had no communication with Harkirat following his detention.
A spokesperson for Hisar Police clarified, “Harkirat was called for questioning in an espionage case and has been let off as he has no role in the matter.”
The incident comes amid heightened surveillance and multiple arrests in connection with alleged spying activities linked to Pakistan, following the Pahalgam terror attack and subsequent military escalation.
