ZIRAKPUR, June 14 — The body of a 43-year-old man was discovered along the busy 200-foot Airport Road near Jhopri Restaurant late Friday morning, prompting a police investigation that now points to a possible hit-and-run.
Identified as Avdhesh Rai, a native of Bihar, the deceased had been living in Zirakpur and working as an electrician in the vicinity of Amity University. His body was spotted around 11 a.m., lying by the roadside, according to police officials.
“It appears he may have been struck by a vehicle that didn’t stop,” said Investigating Officer Rajesh Chauhan. “The circumstances suggest a hit-and-run, but we are waiting for the post-mortem report to confirm the cause of death.”
Witnesses working nearby told police that Rai had been intoxicated and was seen repeatedly approaching the edge of the road before the incident. His erratic movements, they noted, may have contributed to the accident.
The police have notified Rai’s family and sent his body to the civil hospital in Dera Bassi for autopsy. Efforts are ongoing to collect CCTV footage from the surrounding area to piece together the events leading up to his death.
“We are scanning surveillance footage to trace the vehicle involved,” Chauhan added. “The investigation is active and ongoing.”
