Kapurthala, May 12 — A powerful explosion, likely triggered by a gas leak, rocked a residence in the Sheikhupur area of Kapurthala early Monday morning, leaving one man injured and causing significant structural damage to the property.
The incident occurred around 5 a.m. when Sukhbir Singh, a resident near Kharbuja Mandi, stepped out of his bathroom and switched on the courtyard light. A sudden blast followed, believed to have been caused by accumulated gas, resulting in the destruction of fiber sheet roofing, cracked ceilings, and shattered windowpanes.
Sukhbir sustained burns to his hands and legs and was rushed to the Civil Hospital by his family. “He is now stable and out of danger,” said Dr. Jashan, who is overseeing his treatment.
Deputy Superintendent of Police Deepkaran Singh visited the site shortly after the incident. “Preliminary findings suggest the explosion was caused by a gas leak,” he said, adding that the investigation is ongoing to determine the precise cause and sequence of events.
Local residents reported hearing a loud explosion and witnessing a flash of light at the time of the blast. Police officials are continuing to probe the matter.
