Zirakpur, March 30— A 25-year-old man was stabbed in the back after objecting to a group of youths hurling a flowerpot at him in Zirakpur’s Tribune Colony, police said on Saturday.
The victim, Chandan, a Bihar native, was returning home from Chandigarh with a friend around 9:30 pm on Thursday when three to four unidentified individuals on a nearby rooftop threw a flowerpot that narrowly missed him.
When Chandan confronted them, the group launched a sudden knife attack from behind. He was reportedly stabbed multiple times in the hand and back, with one of the knives lodging in his spine before the attackers fled.
His cousin rushed him to Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH), Sector 32, Chandigarh. He was later referred to the Postgraduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER) due to the severity of his injuries.
Zirakpur police registered a case on Friday against the attackers under Sections 115(2), 118(1), 109, 126(2), and 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.
“The victim sustained serious stab wounds and is receiving treatment at PGIMER,” a police official said. “We are working on identifying the suspects and making arrests soon.”
