Chandigarh, November 2, 2025: Punjab’s electricity revolution is not confined to homes — it extends deep into the state’s farmlands. Under Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann’s ‘Roshaan Punjab’ mission, 13.5 lakh farmers are receiving free power for agricultural use, a move the government says is helping reduce input costs and stabilise farm incomes.

The mission, a cornerstone of the state’s welfare policy, combines zero electricity bills for domestic users with continued free supply to cultivators. “Punjab’s Annadata has been kept at the centre of this policy,” a government spokesperson said. “Farmers are saving thousands each month, and that directly supports national food security.”
Officials added that the total 11.40 crore ‘Zero Bills’ issued since July 2022 underline a governance shift — from subsidy politics to structured relief. In comparison, previous governments, the state says, “failed to translate promises into policy.”
With both households and farms under its coverage, the ‘Roshaan Punjab’ initiative has turned electricity into a symbol of empowerment rather than expense — powering not just homes, but the hope of a stronger rural economy.
