Massive Fire Destroys Over 40 Shanties in Gurugram Slum

by TheReportingTimes

Gurugram, April 30 — A major fire broke out in a slum cluster in Gurugram’s Sector 102 early Wednesday, destroying more than 40 shanties and displacing dozens of families.

No casualties or injuries were reported in the incident, officials confirmed.

The fire, which reportedly started around 3:50 a.m. near a scrapheap close to the Dwarka Expressway, quickly engulfed the densely packed settlement.

Fire officer Narender Singh said the flames intensified after multiple small gas cylinders exploded, causing the fire to spread rapidly across the slum area.

“More than 10 fire engines and over 50 firefighters from Bhim Nagar, Sector 29, Sector 37, and Udyog Vihar stations were deployed to the site,” Singh said.

“It took us more than three hours to control the blaze.”

Although the fire caused significant damage, Singh noted that swift response by fire personnel helped limit the destruction.

“While over 40 shanties were gutted, our firefighters managed to save around 100 nearby,” he added.

The exact cause of the fire is under investigation, but preliminary reports suggest it was sparked by flammable materials in the scrapheap, which ignited the surrounding structures.

Many of the shanties were built with highly combustible materials, contributing to the rapid spread of the flames.

Local authorities are currently assessing the extent of damage and arranging temporary shelter for the affected families.
