Yamunanagar, Jan 15: The Yamunanagar-Jagadhri Municipal Corporation has reaffirmed its commitment to the total ban on 19 specific plastic items, including spoons, straws, and thermocol decorations. Under the leadership of Commissioner Mahabir Parsad, enforcement teams have been split into two zones to maximize coverage and prevent the distribution of non-biodegradable materials.
Officials noted that the list of prohibited items includes plastic flags, PVC banners, ice cream sticks, and earbuds with plastic sticks. The ongoing raids are designed to remind vendors that the ban, which has been in place for several years, carries heavy financial penalties for non-compliance.
“From July 1, 2020, a complete ban has been imposed on the use of 19 plastic items,” the Municipal Commissioner said.
Authorities mentioned that the focus remains on high-traffic commercial areas where polythene carry bags are still occasionally used in secret. The MCYJ has signaled that further raids will continue throughout the week to maintain pressure on suppliers and retailers who continue to violate environmental regulations.
