Mohali, Aug 10: Dr. MJ Zarabi, a pioneer in India’s microelectronics industry and former chairman and managing director of Semiconductor Complex Ltd (SCL), passed away on Friday. His cremation took place on Sunday.

Over a distinguished career spanning more than three decades, Dr. Zarabi became a defining figure in India’s microelectronics sector. He co-authored several key reference works and earned fellowships at prestigious institutions including the Indian National Academy of Engineering, the National Academy of Sciences, and the Institution of Electronics and Telecommunication Engineers.

His contributions helped build India’s technological self-reliance in microelectronics, inspiring generations of engineers and strengthening the country’s strategic capabilities. Colleagues recall him as a visionary who shaped the foundation of India’s semiconductor industry.

Dr. Zarabi’s legacy endures in the continued growth of India’s microelectronics and his impact on the nation’s scientific community.
