ZIRAKPUR, July 21 — A 40-year-old daily wage labourer was stabbed to death in Bhabat village of Zirakpur on Sunday morning after he confronted a neighbour for allegedly misbehaving with his wife. The victim, identified as Pramod, a native of Sambhal district in Uttar Pradesh, was living in a rented home with his wife Malti and their four young children.
The incident occurred around 5 a.m. when Malti was washing clothes outside the house. According to police, Faizan — also a migrant and Pramod’s neighbour — allegedly approached her and behaved in an obscene manner. When Malti resisted and raised the alarm, an argument broke out between the two.
“Hearing the commotion, Pramod came outside to intervene,” said Station House Officer (SHO) Satinder Singh. “During the confrontation, Faizan suddenly pulled out a knife and stabbed him in the chest. Pramod collapsed on the spot.”
Neighbours and family members rushed Pramod to a nearby hospital, where he was declared dead on arrival.
The accused fled the scene after the attack but was arrested by police later in the evening. Faizan’s father and brother were also detained for questioning but were released after initial investigation. “A case under Section 103 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita has been registered, and the body has been sent for post-mortem,” SHO Singh confirmed.
The murder has sparked outrage among the local community, with residents demanding strict action against the accused. Pramod’s family, struggling with the shock of the loss, has appealed for justice and support.
The incident has also raised concerns over the safety of migrant families living in vulnerable conditions in the area. Police said further investigation is ongoing and additional security measures are being considered.
