Milkfed to Sell 500 Quintals of Ghee-Based Sweets This Diwali

by TheReportingTimes

SHIMLA, Oct. 16 — Himachal Pradesh Milkfed, the state’s cooperative dairy federation, will sell 500 quintals of ghee-based sweets this Diwali season, continuing its tradition of offering consumers a trusted alternative to adulterated festive sweets.

For the first time, Milkfed has placed its Diwali sweets order with Chandigarh Sweets Shop, located in Industrial Area Phase 1. The federation has supplied the shop with pure clarified butter (ghee) for the production of the sweets, which will be available at Milkfed counters from Wednesday.

“These sweets are being made from pure ghee supplied by Milkfed,” said Sandeep Sharma, Milkfed’s marketing manager. “This time, special attention is being paid to quality. A special team has been formed to inspect samples of sweets, and manufacturing is being done under CCTV surveillance, access to which has been given to Milkfed,” he noted.

The sweets will be sold at or below market rates at 30 Milkfed counters set up across the state, including two at the Shimla Secretariat and one each at Sanjauli and the district court circle. The counters will offer a range of festive favourites, including milk cake, doda burfi, cashew burfi, soan papdi, coconut burfi, and gram flour laddus.

Before the COVID-19 pandemic, Milkfed prepared its own sweets in-house. However, since 2020, the cooperative has been sourcing sweets from third-party manufacturers while maintaining strict quality control.

Established in 1990 and operational since 1993, Milkfed procures milk from local cattle farmers through cooperative societies. Its dairy plants produce ghee, butter, cheese, yogurt, and khoya for retail sale. The federation’s network supports the rural economy by strengthening milk cooperatives and ensuring steady income for livestock farmers.

“This Diwali, consumers can enjoy pure, quality sweets made from our ghee — with complete transparency and care,” Sharma added.
