Fazilka, 1 September 2025: Punjab Cabinet Minister Dr. Baljit Kaur on Monday visited flood-hit areas near Chand Bhan Drain at village Noor Shah in Fazilka district, where she met affected families, distributed relief material, and assured them of government support. She was accompanied by Fazilka MLA Narinderpal Singh Sawna and former Abohar MLA Arun Narang.

Speaking to residents, Dr. Kaur said the Punjab government under Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann was “fully committed to help the flood-affected people and there is no dearth of funds for relief work.” She noted that relief supplies worth more than ₹200 crore had been dispatched across the state.

“In Fazilka constituency alone, relief worth ₹70 lakh has been distributed so far, which includes 4,558 ration kits and 2,017 bags of animal fodder. Sanitary pads and mosquito nets have also been provided to women,” she said.

The minister added that Vraj Ashrams had been opened for elderly victims, while special priority was being given to relocating differently abled persons to safe areas. She also assured that a Girdawari (damage assessment survey) would be conducted once floodwaters recede, and full compensation would be provided for losses.

Earlier in the day, Dr. Kaur reviewed relief operations with Deputy Commissioner Amarpreet Kaur Sandhu and other officials at the District Administrative Complex. She also interacted with volunteers, saying, “In this hour of crisis, everyone will come together to support the flood victims.”

During her visit to Noor Shah, Dr. Kaur and MLA Sawna served langar to families taking shelter along the embankments.
