Khanna, April 7: Punjab Cabinet Minister Tarunpreet Singh Sond on Monday inaugurated development works worth ₹79.85 lakh across several schools in Khanna constituency, marking a significant push under the state’s education upgrade drive.
The works span six schools: Government Middle School Rahon, Government Senior Secondary School Lalheri, Government Primary School Malakpur, Government Middle School Goh, Government Primary School Goh, and Government Middle School Ratanheri.
Sond said a boundary wall in Rahon school has been built for ₹19 lakh, alongside bathroom renovations costing ₹1 lakh. In Lalheri, ₹15.02 lakh each has been spent on constructing two classrooms and two modern labs. Girls’ bathrooms were constructed for ₹1.5 lakh.

Sond highlighted that Punjab’s ₹17,762 crore allocation for education is transforming public schooling. “Government schools are now outpacing convent and model schools in performance and preference,” he claimed.
He also noted the regularisation of 12,500 temporary teachers and recruitment of 20,000 more, adding that the government has created 56,000 jobs for youth over three years. The School of Eminence project, he said, continues to provide students with competitive skills and much-needed relief to parents.
