New Delhi June 16— Prime Minister Narendra Modi was conferred with the Grand Cross of the Order of Makarios III, Cyprus’ highest civilian award, on Monday in recognition of his contributions to strengthening bilateral ties.
“Humbled to receive the ‘Grand Cross of the Order of Makarios III’ of Cyprus. I dedicate it to the friendship between our nations,” Modi said in a statement after accepting the honour.
The award is named after Archbishop Makarios III, the first President of Cyprus, and represents the highest class of the country’s senior order of knighthood.
With this, Cyprus joins a growing list of nations that have honoured Modi with their top national awards in recent years, acknowledging his global diplomatic outreach and leadership.
