MOHALI, Dec 30: Twenty-three schools from Mohali have been selected for the National Green School Award after a nationwide audit assessed their performance in environmental conservation and sustainable practices, officials said.

Most of the selected institutions are government schools. The assessment was carried out under the Green School Audit programme of the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, in partnership with the Punjab State Council for Science and Technology and the Centre for Science and Environment.

According to district officials, the audit evaluated schools on parameters such as waste segregation, water conservation, energy efficiency and promotion of eco-friendly habits among students.

“These schools have shown consistent commitment to sustainable practices and environmental education,” said District Coordinator Khushwinder Kaur.

District Education Officer (Secondary) Dr. Ginni Duggal said the schools will be honoured at a national ceremony in New Delhi on January 30.

“The recognition reflects the involvement of teachers, students and Eco-Clubs in building environmental consciousness at the grassroots level,” Duggal said.

Among the awardees are Government High School, Mauli Baidwan; Government Senior Secondary School, Behlolpur; Government Senior Secondary School, Mubarakpur; Government Senior Secondary School, Rampur Sainia; and Government High School, Saneta.
