Mohali Woman Killed; Husband Arrested

by TheReportingTimes

Mohali, Nov 12: A newlywed woman was found dead in her rented flat in Amb Sahib Colony, Jagatpura, Mohali, on Tuesday, prompting police to arrest her husband in connection with the killing.

The deceased, Radhika, 28, had married 32-year-old Ravi from Bihar just over two months ago. The couple had recently moved into the rented accommodation, and Ravi worked as a driver for a local acquaintance, police said.

The murder is believed to have occurred on Monday evening. The incident came to light the following day when Ravi’s mother returned home to find her daughter-in-law covered in blood on the bed. A doctor summoned to the scene confirmed her death.

Inspector Periwinkle Singh Grewal of Phase 11 police station said, “Our initial investigation indicates that the husband attacked his wife following an argument while under the influence of alcohol. Injuries on her head, face, and neck suggest a blunt instrument was used.”

Residents said Ravi frequently drank alcohol. “We saw him around 6 pm on Monday outside the house with blood on his clothes, carrying what appeared to be an iron rod,” a neighbor recalled. Attempts to contact the police at that time reportedly failed, as the house remained locked throughout the night.

Inside the home was Ravi’s elder brother, Sonu, described by neighbors as mentally challenged, though he was unharmed.

Ravi remains in police custody as investigations continue, including questioning of neighbors and relatives to determine the exact sequence of events leading to Radhika’s death.
