Chandigarh, Dec 10: Infighting inside the Punjab Congress deepened this week as more party leaders initiated legal action against former MLA Navjot Kaur Sidhu, soon after the state unit suspended her over corruption allegations.
Tarn Taran district Congress president Rajbir Singh Bhullar served Kaur a notice accusing her of falsely claiming that Karanbir Singh Burj paid ₹10 crore to secure a ticket in the recent bypoll. Bhullar said he would sue if she failed to retract the remarks within seven days.
In a separate move, senior Congress leader Anil Joshi said he would file a criminal defamation complaint after Kaur alleged he had paid money to join the party. “She should apologise for her remarks; otherwise, I will file a case,” Joshi said.
The legal push follows a week of escalating comments from Kaur, who has alleged widespread corruption in the distribution of party positions and tickets. Speaking in Patiala on Monday, she said neither she nor her husband, former Punjab Congress chief Navjot Singh Sidhu, had the financial means to pay for political posts but insisted they could “transform Punjab into a golden state.”
Kaur also said Sidhu would return to active politics if the Congress declared him its chief ministerial face for Punjab, adding another layer of tension to the internal feud.
