Chandigarh, July 7: Chandigarh MP Manish Tewari on Sunday inaugurated a new network of CCTV cameras installed across Sector 45 C and D, marking the launch of a key public safety initiative funded under the Member of Parliament Local Area Development Scheme (MPLADS).
The project, designed to enhance surveillance and deter crime, includes 76 strategically placed cameras covering public spaces and inner roads. It is part of a broader effort to build a more secure environment for residents, with plans already in motion to extend the installation to other parts of Sector 45 and Sector 46.
“I was surprised by how strongly residents felt the need for additional surveillance,” Tewari said at the event. “Community security is a top priority, and the funds have been used to meet this urgent need.”
The inauguration ceremony drew several prominent local figures, including Chandigarh Pradesh Congress Committee president H.S. Lucky, area councillor Gurpreet Singh Gabi, Dilawar Singh, and representatives of the Group Housing Society. Senior citizens and other residents also turned out in large numbers.
Councillor Gabi thanked the MP for honouring his election promise. “This step will greatly help in preventing petty crime and will offer peace of mind to residents,” he said, while also confirming that more CCTV coverage is being planned for nearby sectors.
Tewari used the opportunity to engage directly with citizens, listening to their concerns and pledging swift action on civic issues. “Lack of funds will never be an obstacle to development,” he assured. “Holistic growth of the constituency remains my central focus.”
The event marked a milestone in Chandigarh’s push to integrate technology into public infrastructure. With these installations, Sector 45 C and D become the latest areas in the city to benefit from round-the-clock digital surveillance aimed at enhancing both safety and community confidence.
