Mukh Mantri Sehat Yojna Eliminates Financial Barriers for Infant Care

Immediate treatment for critical pneumonia case in Sri Muktsar Sahib sets new precedent

Sri Muktsar Sahib, March 24: Punjab’s specialized health insurance scheme has proven vital for the state’s youngest citizens, as a one-year-old recently recovered from a life-threatening bout of pneumonia through entirely cashless treatment. The case in Sri Muktsar Sahib illustrates the government’s effort to remove the gap between hospital admission and the start of medical procedures, which historically required families to arrange funds or complete complex documentation first.

Cabinet Minister Dr. Balbir Singh affirmed that the Mukh Mantri Sehat Yojna ensures that treatment is never postponed due to administrative or monetary constraints. He declared that under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, the state is prioritizing the health of newborns and children. The minister stated that providing immediate access to over 2,300 medical packages across the state has made healthcare more accessible for families in rural and urban areas alike.

The treatment for the infant, Khwaish, was facilitated at an empanelled hospital where the family utilized their existing Sehat Card to bypass traditional billing hurdles. This immediate intervention is part of a larger trend across Punjab, with increasing reports of newborns in districts like Mansa and Sangrur receiving critical care for specialized conditions without out-of-pocket expenses. Officials asserted that this trend signifies a more responsive healthcare system where treatment begins without financial hesitation.

With 26 lakh families already covered, the state continues to promote the enrollment process to ensure comprehensive protection. Dr. Balbir Singh maintained that the goal is to create a robust sports and health environment where no citizen is denied care. He asserted that the success of the youngest beneficiary serves as a testament to the scheme’s effectiveness in handling high-stakes medical emergencies for the most vulnerable residents.
