MUKTSAR, Dec 29 — Ghagga village in Muktsar district has taken a strict stand against crime and drug-peddling, with the panchayat resolving to impose a Rs 50,000 fine and socially boycott anyone who aids offenders or acts as surety for their bail.

Ravinder Kaur, sarpanch, said Monday, “The panchayat has unanimously passed the resolution after noticing an increase in thefts, especially of water motors in fields. People who support or provide bail for offenders involved in thefts, snatchings, or drug activities will face social boycott and a fine of Rs 50,000.”

The resolution follows similar actions in nearby villages. Shamkhera village had warned drug peddlers to reform, stating that those caught selling drugs would bear full responsibility for the consequences. Balloh village in Bathinda banned tobacco sales and set a Rs 5,000 fine for violators.
