Chandigarh, Feb 6: The Congress party has formally expelled Dr Navjot Kaur Sidhu from its primary membership on Friday. The decision was announced by Bhupesh Baghel, the party’s Punjab affairs in-charge, following a series of social media posts where Dr Sidhu critiqued the top leadership.
The disciplinary action comes shortly after Dr Sidhu had already announced her resignation, citing a disconnect between the leadership and ground realities. The rift widened after she used specific labels to describe the party’s national leadership and suggested that the inner circle was keeping leaders isolated from the public.
“Pappu has finally put a stamp on his name,” Dr Sidhu stated in a recent post. “A leader who thinks he is the only honest and knowledgeable person, totally unaware of ground realities.”
State leadership noted that the expulsion also serves as a clarification regarding the party’s internal discipline. Amrinder Raja Warring, the Punjab Congress chief, mentioned that she had been under suspension for indiscipline prior to this final decision. The move also clarifies the party’s stance following recent suggestions by former CM Charanjit Singh Channi about a possible reconciliation.
Dr Sidhu’s recent commentary included praise for the BJP and Prime Minister Narendra Modi, recalling her tenure as a Chief Parliamentary Secretary. While her husband, Navjot Singh Sidhu, has remained away from active politics recently and continues to share images with the Gandhi family, Dr Sidhu’s exit has sparked widespread discussion about the couple’s future political direction.
