Need Haryana where daughters dream: Governor Ghosh

by TheReportingTimes

PANCHKULA, Sept. 29 — Haryana governor Ashim Kumar Ghosh on Sunday called for creating a state where “every daughter has the right to dream and fulfil them,” stressing that women’s empowerment and healthy families go hand in hand.

Speaking as the chief guest at the ‘Swasth Nari Sashakt Parivar’ programme organised by the Haryana State Child Welfare Council at Indradhanush Auditorium, Ghosh said, “When women are empowered, families become more aware, educated and organised. And when families are healthy, women get more opportunities to progress in life.”

The governor underlined the need to ensure rights and opportunities for women to make them self-reliant and equal participants in society. He also lauded chief minister Nayab Singh Saini’s leadership, saying Haryana was “touching new heights of development” under him.

Highlighting the work of the Haryana State Child Welfare Council, Ghosh said it has been engaged in the holistic development of children since 1971 and now reaches about 1.25 lakh children, youth and women every year through Bal Bhavans, Laghu Bal Bhavans, Bal Grihas, adoption services, coaching classes, de-addiction centres and open shelter homes.

“As chairman of the council, it is a matter of pride that 704 children have been provided new homes through adoption, of which 528 were adopted in India and 176 abroad,” he said.

Council vice-chairperson Suman Saini, who also addressed the gathering, said the council’s Bal Bhavans and Laghu Bal Bhavans run a wide range of programmes for children up to 18 years, including computer centres, craft and childcare activities, libraries, model day care centres and talent search initiatives.

Governor Ghosh attended the event with his wife, Mitra Ghosh, while council vice-chairperson Saini joined as a special guest.
