Chandigarh, August 25: Chandigarh’s public infrastructure is set for a massive upgrade following a high-level administrative panel’s recommendation of three core projects worth a combined ₹176 crore. Chaired by the chief secretary, the appraisal committee approved a balanced development plan splitting funds across a crucial transit flyover, a new localized medical facility, and an environmental conservation initiative.
The financial allocation splits the ₹176-crore budget into three distinct public works:
- ₹89 crore for a 1,280-metre elevated road at Khudda Jassu and Khuda Lahora to bypass heavy commuter gridlock near PGI.
- ₹73 crore to construct a new 50-bedded critical care hospital at Manimajra to expand urgent healthcare access.
- ₹13 crore to develop a dedicated City Forest project within the ecologically sensitive Sukhna Choe Reserve Forest.
Engineering teams will employ fast-tracked precast construction techniques and solid-fill approaches to erect the four-lane PGI corridor with minimal disruption to current traffic. By separating local neighborhood transit from heavy hospital-bound traffic, the administration aims to fundamentally boost the road network’s carrying capacity while simultaneously expanding medical emergency readiness through the upcoming Manimajra hospital facility.
