CHANDIGARH, April 6: — A new Jan Aushadhi Kendra was inaugurated on Saturday in Kajheri village under the ongoing Prime Minister’s Jan Aushadhi Yojana, aimed at making affordable medicines more accessible to the public.

The kendra was inaugurated by Sanjay Tandon, national executive member of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and co-incharge of BJP Himachal Pradesh.

Describing the initiative as transformative, Tandon said the project, launched by the Modi government, is significantly reducing healthcare costs for poor and middle-income families. “Thousands of such centres have opened across the country, offering high-quality generic medicines at very low prices,” he said.

He added that in addition to essential medicines, the government has taken steps to make expensive surgical items more affordable through these kendras. “This is a major relief for ordinary citizens, especially those with chronic conditions or recurring medical needs,” Tandon said.

He also mentioned that the underprivileged and senior citizens are eligible for free treatment up to ₹5 lakh under the Ayushman Bharat Yojana, further easing healthcare access for vulnerable groups.
