PATIALA, FEB 8: Dr. Pushpinder Singh Gill has been appointed to lead the Maharaja Bhupinder Singh Punjab Sports University in Patiala following an announcement from the Punjab Governor’s Secretariat. The appointment, effective for three years, marks a transition toward integrating corporate-style management with traditional sports science and education.
Vivek Pratap Singh, Principal Secretary to the Governor, issued the formal notification on Sunday. The appointment was made through the powers conferred by the University’s 2019 Statutes, with the specific terms and conditions of service to be released by the Department of Youth Affairs and Sports.
The university administration said that Dr. Gill’s extensive background in both domestic and international sectors made him a suitable choice for the role. “Dr. Gill aims to lead the University with courage, inclusivity, and purpose,” the official statement noted, regarding his vision for technologically advanced and ethically grounded education.
Throughout his career, Dr. Gill has been a prolific contributor to management studies, serving as Editor-in-Chief of the Indian Journal of Management Studies. He has delivered over 100 invited talks at national forums and served as an expert for Public Service Commissions across several states, including Himachal Pradesh and Rajasthan.
His professional portfolio is highlighted by his tenure as an Executive HR Trainer for firms such as Phillips India Ltd. and Federal-Mogul Goetze India Limited. This diverse experience is expected to assist in his mission to modernize the university’s curriculum and research capabilities.
Dr. Gill directly said that he envisions an environment where students, faculty, and industry leaders co-create knowledge. He mentioned that the university’s services should remain socially relevant to Punjab while maintaining scientific rigor.
