by TheReportingTimes

Chandigarh, November 6: The Punjab Cabinet on Thursday approved the recruitment of 110 posts under the state’s newly formed Sports Medical Cadre, marking a major expansion in the health infrastructure for athletes and sports institutions across districts.

According to an official statement, the new positions include 14 posts in Group-A, 16 in Group-B, and 80 in Group-C categories. The recruitment will initially be on a three-year contractual basis, with extensions contingent on performance evaluations.

Officials said the medical staff will provide on-field and institutional support for injury management, rehabilitation, and performance enhancement of athletes. Teams will be deployed in key sports districts including Patiala, Ludhiana, Amritsar, Bathinda, Jalandhar, Mohali, Sangrur, and Fazilka, among others.

Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann said the move was part of the government’s effort to strengthen the sports ecosystem through scientific and medical support. “The state’s athletes will now have access to timely health facilities in their own districts,” he said, adding that the initiative would also open new avenues of employment for trained medical and paramedical youth.

Mann reiterated that all new appointments would be made on merit, without any “recommendations or monetary influence.”

The state government has said that strengthening the sports-medical framework is essential to raise Punjab’s performance at national and international levels and to ensure long-term health and safety of sportspersons.
