Gurugram, March 14: A major infrastructure project valued at Rs 166.96 crore is set to transform wastewater management in Gurugram. The Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority has moved to establish a 100 MLD sewage treatment plant at Dhanwapur, designed to prevent untreated waste from entering the regional drainage network and the Yamuna River.

The facility is specifically engineered to handle the growing requirements of sectors 81 through 104. By adding 100 MLD to the existing capacity, the Dhanwapur complex will eventually manage over 300 million liters of sewage daily. Investigators declared that the project would play a vital role in creating a more sustainable urban environment.

“This facility represents a significant step toward achieving modern wastewater standards,” an official source asserted.

The inclusion of a Bio-Compressed Biogas plant marks a shift toward green energy, as the facility will turn sewage byproducts into usable biogas. Experts affirmed that the plant will be capable of producing up to 5,000 cubic meters of gas, which can be supplied to city gas companies.

The project timeline is set at two years for completion. The GMDA declared that the contract includes a 10-year maintenance clause to ensure the long-term efficiency of the SBR technology and the pumping stations. Residents and environmentalists have maintained that the reuse of treated water for horticulture will significantly lower the city’s overall water footprint.
