Shimla, October 13 — A newly constructed three-storey temple of local deity Jharu Nag Devta was gutted in a massive fire that broke out at Shaneri village in Rampur subdivision on Sunday evening.

According to officials, the blaze erupted around 7.50 pm and quickly engulfed the structure, which had been built at a cost of ₹2.5 crore. The temple’s Pran Pratishtha (consecration) ceremony was scheduled for next year.

Fire tenders rushed to the spot along with local residents, who tried to contain the flames. However, the fire spread rapidly, reducing the entire building to ashes before it could be brought under control.

The district administration has launched an inquiry to determine the cause of the fire and assess the losses.
