NIA Files Chargesheet in Sector 10 Grenade Attack Case

by TheReportingTimes

Chandigarh, March 23 — Over six months after a grenade attack on a house in Chandigarh’s Sector 10-D, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) has filed a chargesheet against US-based gangster-turned-Khalistani leader Harpreet Singh, alias Happy Passia, and Pakistan-based terrorist Harwinder Singh Rinda.

The chargesheet also names Rohan Masih and Vishal Masih, who allegedly hurled the grenade on Passia and Rinda’s directions. According to the NIA, the duo conducted a recce of the area before carrying out the attack. The blast targeted a house believed to be rented by a retired Punjab Police official, with Passia allegedly claiming responsibility.

Meanwhile, the NIA has dropped the names of auto driver Kuldeep Kumar, who reportedly ferried Rohan and Vishal to the house, along with Amarjit Singh and Akashdeep Singh. The latter two were earlier arrested for allegedly procuring a cross-border consignment of weapons suspected to have included the grenade. However, their names were removed due to lack of evidence.

The chargesheet invokes Sections 13 and 16 of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act; Sections 109, 351(2), 333, and 61 of the Bhartiya Nyaya Sanhita; and Sections 3, 4, 5, and 6 of the Explosive Substances Act against the four accused.

The case, which was initially probed by local police before being handed over to the NIA due to suspected cross-border links, is scheduled for its next hearing on April 15.
