Chandigarh, May 16 — In an ongoing investigation into the December grenade attack on a police station in Gurdaspur, the National Investigation Agency on Friday searched 15 locations across Punjab. The raids were carried out in Gurdaspur, Batala, Amritsar and Kapurthala.
According to officials, the premises searched were linked to suspects associated with Harpreet Singh, also known as Happy Passian, a US-based operative of Babbar Khalsa International, and his close associate Shamsher Singh Shera, also known as Honey. Investigators recovered multiple mobile devices and documents considered relevant to the case.
The agency said the accused who carried out the Gurdaspur attack had acted on instructions from Harpreet and his associates. “Evidence shows a larger conspiracy involving operatives based overseas, including in Pakistan, to recruit and train local individuals, supply weapons and explosives, and coordinate attacks within India,” an NIA official said.
Harpreet Singh is alleged to have directed several grenade attacks targeting police stations and posts in Punjab and Haryana. He is also said to be working closely with Harwinder Singh Rinda, a Pakistan-based BKI figure who has previously been named in multiple terror plots.
The NIA stated that the wider network, operating with the help of associates in various countries, had been facilitating the transfer of funds, logistical support and arms to field-level operatives in India.
The case, registered under directions from the Ministry of Home Affairs, remains under investigation.
